NZAPEP, represented by Christine Clark and Chuck Wareham met with Mr Stephen Cunningham the General Manager for Employment Services Work and Income earlier this week. As previously advised to PTEs, NZAPEP had identified the need for closer working relationships with Work and Income and with the change in funding structure that has recently been announced this had become even more imperative. The meeting with Mr Cunningham was very successful, establishing an agreement for future meetings and providing an opportunity to exchange information on a number of issues. Mr Cunningham stressed the need for Work and Income and the PTEs to build on what we had learned and work more collaboratively to maximize the opportunities going forward. It is stressed however, that the primary focus of Work and Income is to gain sustained employment for the client and to work with employers to provide trained, skilled employees. NZAPEP are encouraged by this meeting and by the opportunities that are available to the PTE Sector. It would appear that many doors are now open to us with our increased dialogue and awareness. We look forward to communicating more information to our members in the very near future.
